Aluksi tärkeimmät(?) asiat: kiitos huivikehuista! Huiviin palaan heti, kun saan sen pingotettua ja otettua siitä uusia kuvia.
Sitten asiaan: meillä ei ollut niin huono tuuri kuin Vilmalla, vaan Niina ja minä pääsimme viemään kollegani Heman (muistattehan hänet?) ex-kollegani Jaanan kanssa Tallinnaan. Meillä oli liput Nordic Jet Linen 10.05 lähtevään lauttaan ja matkalla satamaan Niina kertoi, että klo 8 lautta oli peruttu. Pohdiskelimme siinä, onko tuuli edelleen niin kova, että klo 10 lauttakin olisi peruttu. Ei ollut, mutta sinne oli ilmeisesti mahdutettu ainakin osa kahdeksalta rannalle jääneistä matkustajista. Saimme paikat lautan peräosasta, missä nökötimme penkeillä vieri vieressä ilman pöytää.
Lautta saapui Tallinnaan myöhässä, koska sen piti hidastaa tuulen takia. Tuulta saan kiittää myös sangen epämiellyttävästä matkasta. Sen aikana mm. kului paljon henkilökunnan ystävällisesti jakamia muovipusseja, syntyi kuolemattomia lausahduksia tyyliin "sulje silmäsi ja ajattele Englantia" ja "be pretty when you puke" ja keräsin paljon sympatiaa lähistöllä olevilta matkustajilta. (Tosin jos Linda Linen säilykepurkit olisivat kulkeneet ja olisimme menneet niillä, olisin varmaankin kuollut siihen paikkaan, jos jotain positiivista nyt haetaan.) Muuten, muistaako kukaan, minkä ratkaisun Myytinmurtajat löysivät merisairauteen?
Päätin siis palkita itseni langalla. Oikeastaan olisin vain halunnut mennä kotiin ja käpertyä sänkyyn, mutta koska olin Tallinnassa, se ei ollut mahdollista.
Mitäpä neuloja ostaa kärsittyään lähes kaksi tuntia? Kashmiria ja silkkiä tietenkin!
Ensimmäisessä kuvassa viimeiseksi ostettua lankaa, BBB:n Contessa Filatista (Müürivahe 20), 50% mohairia ja 50% akryylia. Se ei vain päästänyt pois kaupasta, joten ostin sitä kolme kerää. Lanka haluaa todennäköisesti huiviksi.
Muut langat ovat Liann Lõngadista (Narva mnt 13). Punainen ja oranssi lanka ovat Emmebin Himalayaa, punaista on enemmän ja oranssia ja valkoista (ei kuvassa) kaksi kerää kumpaakin. Lanka on 90% villaa ja 10% kashmiria - toteutin siis periaatettani "jos se on punaista ja siinä on kashmiria, se on minun". Vaaleanpunainen lanka on Emmebin Husky, 60% villaa ja 40% akryylia. Ensin halusin ostaa viininpunaista Huskya, mutta sitä ei löytynyt varastoista, vaikka myyjän tietokone kertoi sitä olevan vielä jemmassa. Tummempaa pinkkiäkän ei löytynyt, mutta oikeastaan tuo vaalea vaaleanpunainen on aika hyvä väri eikä ollenkaan huono kolmas vaihtoehto.
Jossain jemma-tyyppisessä paikassa on myös kirsikanpunainen silkkilanka, joka maksoi 129 kroonia ja tarttui mukaan myöskin Liann Lõngadista. Ostin sitä kaksi kerää, koska olen sen arvoinen.
Paluumatka ei ollut ihan niin paha. Söimme ensin Controventossa ("Vastatuuleen") ja vastatuuleen tai ainakin myrskytuuleen lähti lauttakin... (Pahoittelen huonoa sanaleikkiä.) Tällä kertaa saimme paikan lautan keskiosasta, joten olo oli vain outo, mutta vakavammilta seurauksilta vältyttiin. Ja nyt menen etsimään silkkilankani ja hiplaamaan sitä!
PS. Liann Lõngadissa on nyt myös ihania käsintehtyjä nappeja!
First things first: I'll get back to the silk scarf details later as the scarf is still unblocked and I have no new pictures of it.
Anyway, yesterday Niina and I took Hema (remember my colleague?) to Tallinn with an ex-colleague of mine, Jaana. We left on the 10.05 ferry. On the way to the terminal Niina told us that the 8.00 ferry had been cancelled and the wind still seemed hard, so we wondered if the 10.05 ferry would go at all. It did, and I guess they squeezed some of the early travellers in there as well because it was full. We managed to get seats from the rear end, no table however and we all had to sit side by side.
The ferry arrived late in Tallinn because they had to slow down due to the wind and all in all, the journey was rough.Let's just say that a lot of plastic bags generously handed by the personnel and many stupid jokes and catch phrases including "close your eyes and think of England" and "be pretty when you puke" were involved and that I ate my breakfast in vain and that I got a lot of symphathy also from the people near-by. By the way, does anyone remember what was the cure the Mythbusters found for seasickness?
So, I decided to reward myself with yarn. Actually, what I really wanted to do was to go home and get back to bed but since I was in Tallinn, that was not possible.
So, what exactly does a knitter buy after suffering for almost two hours? Kashmir and silk, of course!
The first yarn is the yarn I bought last. It's BBB Contessa, a mohair and acrylic blend, from Filati on Müürivahe 20. It just wouldn't let me go, so I got three balls of it. Maybe it'll be a scarf.
The other yarns are from Liann Lõngad on Narva mnt 13. The red and orange yarns are Himalaya by Emmebi, 90% wool and 10% cashmir. If it's red and it's got cashmir, it's mine. The pale pink yarn is Husky also by Emmebi and it's 60% wool, 40% acrylic. I wanted a burgundy colour first but it was misplaced somewhere in the shop and the rest of the balls were not to be found as were the rest of the dark pink balls, but this pale pink is actually quite lovely.
Misplaced is also the cherry red silk yarn (129 kroonis, I, think, so not that bad), also from Liann Lõngad. I got two balls of it just because I'm worth it.
The way back was not that bad. We had a nice dinner at Controvento ("Against the wind") and went home against the wind... What a bad pun! Anyway, we got a place in the middle of the ferry so I just felt strange but not nauseous. And now I have to go and find my silk yarn!

The thought has crossed my mind after seeing so many guys go to the toilet with cartoons and newspapers and magazines and spending a lot of time there, but still I have to say no, I'm too pracical to actually consider that. I never spend that much time in the toilet anyway and the seat is not so comfortable that I'd like to carry my work in process, yarn and needles with me to the toilet and sit there merrily knitting away...
2. Have you ever considered killing someone with your knitting needles? (Question by Knitting Cow)
No. Why should I waste good knitting needles on that? I mean, stabbing someone with your DPNs or strangling someone with your circulars aren't that nice things to do - needlewise, that is. However, I'm not that squeaky clean, I have had some murderous thoughts with some other means...
3. If you knew someone had a fetish for knitted items and asked you to knit something more or less out of the ordinary, would you knit that something for that person? (Question by Marjutin neuleet)
This question comes from a personal experience. Once I was asked to knit something that clearly spelled out "fetish", or, as such the thing was not so bad but considering the circumstances it seemed pretty weird. I had never met the person (in real life nor online) who asked me, so I said no.

Kädentaito 2006 -messut olivat tänä viikonloppuna ja tietenkin sinne piti suunnata tulevan entisen työkaverini kanssa. Messuilla tapasin heti ulko-ovelta alkaen paljon tuttuja ja luin myös muiden blogeista, että paikalla oli ollut ihmisiä, joita olisin halunnut nähdä, mutta syystä tai toisesta en onnistunut sitä tekemään.
Wanha Satama oli täynnä kaikenlaista houkuttelevaa, mutta onnistuin pitämään itseni kurissa ja kannoin kotiin suurinpiirtein nämä...
...tai siis tuossa oikealla ovat ne, jotka heittävät varjoa lankojen päälle vasemmanpuoleisessa kuvassa: habaneromme. Ne ovat olleet täällä jo pitkään eivätkä tulleet messuilta. Kasvatimme nuo kuvan kaksi kasvia ihan siemenestä alkaen (woohoo, hyvä me!) ja nyt ne pukkaavat noin miljoonaa chilihedelmää. Veikkaisin, että tuo määrä haboja riittää meille loppuiäksi.
Sitten lankoihin! Ylhäällä oleva paksu luonnonvalkoinen lanka on Valley Yarnsin Berkshire Bulky ja se on 80% villaa, 20% alpakkaa. Lanka tarttui mukaan Toikan osastolta, sillä pitihän 4 kerää 20 eurolla -tarjous hyödyntää ja hankkia kahdeksan kerää samantien. Valitettavasti vain punaisia lankoja ei enää ollut tarpeeksi paitaa varten... Langoista pitäisi tulla lämpimämpääkin lämmin villapaita tai -takki. Näen silmieni edessä palmikoita... Ettekö tekin? Toikan osastolta kassiin hyppäsi myös kuuden euron edestä tencel-lankaa (120 g) ja siitä tulee todennäköisesti huivi.
Allaoleva luonnonvaalea lanka on Wetterhoffin Sofiaa, 70% villaa ja 30% silkkiä. Tuo on itse asiassa testilankaa, ei vanhaa kunnon Sofiaa - jos ymmärsin oikein, langan kierre on erilainen. Testilangat olivat myynnissä 2,50 euroa per 50 g vyyhti ja niitä lähti samantien mukaan 10 vyyhtiä. Ajattelin kokeilla, kuinka langat saisi itse värjättyä.
Mitähän muuta? Haluatteko nähdä parvekekalusteita varten hankkimani öljyn? Ettekö? Onnistuin myös ohittamaan Colinetten langat ostamatta yhtään, samoin silkkilangat. Olen niin ylpeä itsestäni!
The Kädentaito 2006 handicrafts fair was held in Helsinki this weekend. I went with my colleague but, of course, met a lot of people there and later on read that there were many people I would have wanted to see but didn't...
The place was full of goodies. The additions to my stash were quite uniform in colour this time.
First I have to brag, though. The things casting the shadow on my yarns are in the picture on the right: habanero chilis. We have grown them from the seed, so they did not come from the fair, and the two plants we have ar carrying about a zillion habaneros. That's probably enough chilis to last for a lifetime.
But, to my yarn. The thick cream coloured yarn is Berkshire Bulky from Valley Yarns and it's 80% wool, 20% alpaca. Toika had it on sale, 4 x 100 g balls for 20 euros, so of course I got 8 balls. That should be enough to make a warm, very warm sweater. I see cables... Don't you, too? I also got a small cone of tencel yarn from Toika, it was 6 euros for 120 g. It's most likely going to be a scarf.
The ecru yarn below is Sofia, 70% wool and 30% silk, from Wetterhoff. That's actually test yarn, not the good old Sofia they have had for a while. If I understood correctly, they wanted to try a different kind of plying the yarn and now sold the test hanks on the fair. The price was 2,50 for a 50 g hank and of course I had to get some... Some meaning 10 hanks this time. I'm planning on dyeing the hanks myself.
What else... Well, do you want to see the furniture oil I got for the table and chairs on our balcony? No? I also managed to pass the Colinette yarns and silk yarns without buying any. I'm so proud of myself!

Olen yrittänyt myydä lankojani, mutta niitä riittää ja riittää. Niitä on laatikoissa joka puolella makuuhuonetta ja kissat (kuten edellisessä merkinnässä näitte) pitävät laatikoiden päällä kiipeilystä ja laatikoihin ryömimisestä, jos se suinkin onnistuu.
Takusta on tulossa erinomainen blogikissa. Kolli on ollut täällä vierailevana tähtenä nyt parisen kuukautta (ja pysyy, koska en aio antaa sitä takaisin) ja tänään Takku osoitti taipumuksensa hyppäämällä lankalaatikkojen päälle ja... Jep, kaatoi ne samalla.
Haluatteko tietää, mitä kuvassa on? Jos aloitetaan ylhäältä vasemmalta: oranssia Jaeger Luxury Tweediä, mustaa ja punaista silkkilankaa eBaylta (25 g vyyhdit!), niiden alla kiinalaista lankaa (eBaylta sekin) eli punamustaa ohutta lankaa, pinkkiä merinovillaa ja pinkkiä mohairsekoitetta, sitten oranssia merinovillaa, pari hassua kerää ruskeaa villalankaa ja beigeä kamelinkarvalankaa. Oikealla on pinkkiä ja violettia banaanisilkkilankaa ja kierrätetystä sari silkistä kehrättyä lankaa. Ja tässä oli vasta yksi laatikkokasa... Kuvasta puuttuvat kaksi kerää Kidsilk Hazea ja kaksi kerää kullanväristä lurex-lankaa.

I've been trying to sell my yarns but still there seems to be a lot of them left. They're in boxes all over the bedroom and the cats (as you saw in the previous entry) love climbing on the boxes and crawling into the boxes if that's possible.
Takku is becoming a good blog cat. He's been our guest star for two months now (and he's going to stay for good because I'm not giving him back) and today he jumped on top of the boxes and... Yep, they fell.
Wanna know what's in the photo? In the top left corner: orange Jaeger Luxury Tweed, black and red silk from eBay (25 g hanks!), below them yarn from China (I got it through a seller on eBay... Yep, eBay again.) - red and black wool, pink wool, pink mohair blend. Then there's some orange merino wool, some odd balls of brown wool, light brown camel hair yarn... On the right some pink and violet banana silk yarn and some recycled sari silk yarn. And that was just one pile of boxes... Two balls of Kidsilk Haze and two balls of golden lurex yarn were not even visible in the photo!
Note: Takku was not hurt.

Mitä tarkoittaa käytännössä lause "langat ovat olleet kissallisessa kodissa"? Se tarkoittaa esimerkiksi tätä:
Kissa löytää lankalaatikon. Kissa äheltää (mieluiten keskellä yötä mahdollisimman paljon raapien ja möykäten) ja puskee lankalaatikon kannen syrjään. Kissa asettuu lankalaatikkoon ja kehrää tyytyväisenä. (Kuulisittepa - Takku on todella onnellisen kuuloinen.)
Tätä aasinsiltaa pitkin sujuvasti asiaan: laitoin Huuto.netiin (linkki tuossa oikeassa reunassa) myyntiin ylimääräisiä monivärisiä virolaisia lankoja, jotka toimivat ainakin niskasta aloitettavissa huiveissa hyvin. Eivätköhän ne kohta ala näkyä listauksissakin.
