Mellanraggi-sukat valmistuivat. Sopivat jalkaan ja lämmittävät kylmiä varpaita, kaikki hyvin ja tehtävä onnistunut. Lankaa kului hieman alle kerä. En edes yrittänyt sovittaa raitoja yhteen, jatkoin kakkossukan (jossa on vaalea kärki) suoraan siitä, mihin ykkössukka loppui. Hassua on se, että raidat taisivat mennä lähes täsmälleen päinvastoin, toisessa sukassa on tumma raita siinä, missä toisessa on vaalea ja toisinpäin. (Menipä lyhytsanaiseksi, mutta mitäpä nyt näistä jaarittelemaan?)

The Mellanraggi socks are finished. They fit and keep my cold toes warm, so everything is OK and the mission is accomplished. The pair of socks took less than one ball of yarn. I did not even try to match the stripes, I continued with the second sock (the one with the light toe) from where the first sock ended. What's funny is that the stripes seem to be almost opposites, one sock has a dark stripe where the other has a light one and vice versa. (I'm a bit brief but there's not much to say about socks.)

Parempia aikoja odotellessa olen neulonut sukkia Wanhan Sataman messuilta ostetusta Järbo Garnin Mellanraggi-langasta. Mini tosin tuntuu ajattelevan, että tämäkin lanka kuuluu kissalle.

While waiting for better times I have knitted socks from Järbo Garn Mellanraggi I bought from the Wanha Satama crafts fair. Mini seems to think that this yarn, too, belongs to the cat.

Torstaina kävimme fiilistelemässä Musen keikalla (Jussin kuvia), joten emme ehtineet Helsingin kirjamessuille. Tänään poikkesimme siellä töiden jälkeen ja tässä se nyt on: Fantastinen Espoo lähes uunituoreena, painettuna ja julkaistuna! Ja Tardis! (Yhdeksäs tohtori, missä olet? Kymmeneskin käy.)

Muutakin fantastista tapahtui, mutta siitä myöhemmin.

On Thursday we went to see Muse (Jussi's pics) so we did not make it to the Helsinki Book Fair. Today we dropped by and here it is, the book Fantastinen Espoo almost as fresh as new, all printed and published! And Tardis! (Ninth doctor, where are you? Tenth will also do.)

...lankeemuksen edellä. Tässä sarja "otan sit kuvat itse jalustan kanssa, niih" -kuvia valmiista Puro-takista. (Oikeasti täällä ei kiukutella, vaan Jussi on proosapiirissä ja minä hätäinen - ja pitihän tätä kokeilla.)

"Onneksi on tää radiolaukaisin, niin ei tarvitse sihdata ja irvistellä. Onkohan tää nyt kohdillaan?"
"Glad I have the radio remote controller so I don't need to aim and grin. I wonder if this is OK now?"

"Otetaans ny hyvä kuva edestä... ja takaa. Ehdin kyllä vaihtaa jo verkkarit, mutta ei kai niitä näy?"
"Let's take a good picture of the front... and the back. I did change to my track suit pants but they won't show, will they?"

"Takku, ei, sä et pääse parvekkeelle, vaikka mä heilunkin sen oven edessä."
"Takku, no, you won't be allowed on the balcony though I am standing in front of the door."

"Mini, hyppää! Hyppää!" (Maxia ei kiinnosta.)
"Mini, jump! Jump!" (Maxi is not interested.)

Anttilan keskusvaraston tyhjennys yllätti iloisesti: tarjolla on Novita Biancaa, 100 % villaa (50 g / 85 m) vain 1,50 euroa per kerä! Kaiken akryylihötön keskellä aitoa villaa! Edullista villaa! Se sai vauhtia hitaaseen hämäläiseenkin, sillä edullinen villalanka kelpaa aina varsinkin, kun langan tulevaisuudesta ja siitä, saako sitä enää, ei ole tietoa, sillä Novitan kampanjalankoja tulee ja menee.

Toisaalta, usein Novitan kampanjalankoja saa jostain muualta jollain toisella nimellä. Niin nytkin. Viisaammat keksivät jo Ravelryssa, että Bianca näyttää Gjestalin Julialta.

Mikä tuo pelastuspartiojuttu sitten on? Assosiaatio! Muistin lapsuuteni ajan lempipiirretyn ja jään odottelemaan Bernard-lankaa Biancan seuraksi. Ja ei, en aio pidätellä hengitystäni sillä välin...

A sales campaign in the local department store Anttila started with a happy surprise: they had Novita Bianca, 100% wool (50 g / 85 m) on sale for 1,50 euros per ball! Real wool amongst all the acrylics! Cheap wool! It made me move quickly because a cheap wool yarn is worth buying especially when you do not know of the future of the yarn and whether it will be available anymore after the sales campaign. (Novita has so called campaign yarns that almost randomly come and go.)

On the other hand, the Novita campaign yarns can often be found elsewhere with another name. This was the case now as well. A smarter person already told on Ravelry that Bianca looks just like Gjestal Julia.

So what's The Rescuers thing then? I just happened to remember an animated movie I liked as a child. Now I'll just wait for the Bernard yarn to go with the Bianca yarn... And no, I will not hold my breath meanwhile.

Vietän syntymäpäivää töiden merkeissä (niinkuin maanantait yleensäkin menevät). Lisäksi sataa räntää, jippii.

Eipä se mitään, tänään kelpaa juhlia sitä, että täyttää 25 vuotta kahdennentoista kerran! Fantastinen Espoo alkaa olla julkaisukunnossa ja ehtii varmastikin hyvin myyntiin Helsingin kirjamessuille 22.-25.10. Jos et ESC:in Julkaisut-sivulta bongannut kirjaa, niin kansi näyttää tältä (design allekirjoittaneen yhdessä muiden toimittajien kanssa):

I'm celebrating my birthday by working (that's what I usually do on Mondays anyway). It's also sleeting, yippee.

But nevermind, there's a reason to celebrate turning 25 for the 12th time! The Fantastinen Espoo book is ready be printed and sold at the Helsinki Book Fair on October 22nd-25th. The book will look like this (cover art design by yours truly with assistance from the other editors):

Jussi kävi Linköpingissä työmatkalla ja toi tuliaiseksi kahdeksan kerää färsaarelaista Navia Duo -villalankaa (180 m / 50 g, 3,5 mm puikot). Lanka tuntuu mukavalta ja mukavaa on myös se, että vyötteessä kerrotaan raaka-aineen alkuperästä: se on färsaarelaisten ja shetlanninlampaiden villaa sekä australialaista karitsanvillaa.

Jussi went to Linköping, Sweden on a business trip and brought me eight balls of Faroese Navia Duo wool yarn (180 m / 50 g, 3,5 mm needles) as a souvenir. The yarn feels nice and it's also nice that the ball band tells the origin of the material: Faroese and Shetland wool and Australian lambswool.

Minin mielestä lanka on ehdottomasti tarkoitettu kissalle. Se on jo muutaman kerran penkonut makuuhuoneeseen varastoitua kassia ja raahannut langan miukuen olohuoneeseen.

Mini thinks that the yarn is definitely meant for the cat. Alreay a few times he has rummaged through the yarn bag in the bedroom and, meowing, dragged a ball of yarn to the living room.

Täällä on ollut kovin hiljaista eivätkä neuleet ole edenneet eikä blogikaan päivity itsestään. Se johtuu siitä, että minulla on myös salainen - tai ei kovin salainen - elämä scifinörttinä ja siitä seuraa piakkoin jotain fantastista...

It's been quiet here, not much knitting done and the blog does not update itself. That's because I have a secret - or not that secret - life as a sci-fi nerd and the result will be something fantastic quite soon... (Link in Finnish only.)

Neulominen on jäänyt vähiin, koska olen viime aikoina ollut lähinnä fantastisissa tunnelmissa. Sain kuitenkin Puro-takin ensimmäisen hihan valmiiksi ja ajattelin aloittaa toista, ellei esimerkiksi indeksointi ala yhtäkkiä tuntua kiinnostavammalta vaihtoehdolta. Hihaan kului kaksi kerää lankaa ja uskomatonta kyllä, langassa ei ollut solmuja. Pitänee koputtaa puuta ja toivoa, että toisenkin hihan kanssa olisi samanlainen säkä.

I've spent only a little time knitting because lately I have just been doing something fantastic. I did finish the first sleeve of the Puro cardigan and I thought I could start the second one unless indexing suddenly doesn't seem to be a more interesting option. The sleeve took two balls of yarn and unbelievably enough, there were no knots. I should knock on wood now and hope that I have the same luck with the second sleeve.

Lokakuu on alkanut kylmänä - täällä ei tosin ole satanut lunta niinkuin pohjoisemmassa, mutta aamuisin olo on ollut kuin... ehheh... jäätyneellä karpalolla. Tässä siis kerä Puroa, joka tunnetaan paremmin nimellä "hiha, toinen yritys".

October has began and it is cold. It has not snowed, though, like in northern Finland, but in the mornings I have felt like (excuse the bad pun based on the colourway of the yarn) a frozen cranberry. Here's one ball of Novita Puro, better known as "sleeve, take two".

PS. Kohta on taas se aika vuodesta, kun vanh... täytän jälleen 25. Lahjoja vastaanotetaan ympäri vuorokauden. Jussi, vink vink. Punaisena.
