Red Dune sweater

It's the sale season so I hunt for bargains. When I looked at some knitwear (shame on me), one sweater started talking to me. It was a quite plain sweater with some cable crossings on front and it said that since I have red Red Dune waiting in my stash, I could use the idea and make some cables.

The sweater looks pretty much the same today as it did yesterday so here's a photo of Mini taking care of it.

The cable crossings were a good idea indeed, so I dug out the Red Dune Terhi so kindly got for me and decided not to do cable crossings all the way up but just some to the upper part of the front piece. I knitted three balls in the round, back and front together, that is, and then started thinking about the yardage and whether I would have enough yarn to make the sweater long enough... So, I decided to knit the sleeves next and then continue to separating the front the back when I'd know how much yarn I would have left.

Where did yesterday's entry title then came from? It's another sci-fi reference. Because the yarn is called Red Dune, I immediately thought of Frank Herbert's Dune novels. In them they have an addictive plant called melange, a.k.a the spice and he who controls the spice, controls the universe, so "the spice must flow". (Read the first Dune books, they're good!)
