Novita Bambu rules
Novita Bambu yarn (68% bamboo, 32% cotton) is probably the best thing Novita has made in a long time: it's made of natural fibers and it's lovely to knit. At this point smarter people might point out that the bamboo in bamboo (blend) yarns is bamboo viscose which is a manufactured fiber, but let's not get into that. The point is that the yarn is not completely or mostly plastic.
So far my Bambu sweater has been progressing nicely. I started from the sleeves and moved on to the front and back. Bambu has been a nice yarn - sometimes it splits, but not disturbingly, and it feels soft in my hands. Bambu is also good for lace knitting because it does not feel as tough as, for example, 100% cotton. I have not tried cables but I might test those as well as I have Bambu's cousin, Novita's campaign yarn Olivia (70% bamboo, 30% polyacrylic) waiting in my stash.
I have to admit also that launching Novita Bambu this spring was done just at the right time because other manufacturers launched their bamboo yarns at the same time. If I think about it, I cannot name a company that does not have a bamboo yarn at the moment. The yarn shops are filled with 100% bamboo yarns, bamboo blend yarns (bamboo with cotton and wool at least), basic yarns, ribbon yarns, sock yarns... Novita Bambu fits in well.
Of course Novita Bambu has some downsides. I am somewhat afraid that the sweater might lose its shape when I was it but I may be wrong. The colour selection of the yarn is also sadly small: white, navy blue, green, pink, beige and dark brown do not offer many possibilities for combining the colours. By the way, next winter I'd really like to see a bamboo and wool blend yarn with some delicious rich colours, because Novita's yarns do have nice colours - it's just that all the ten nice colours are all packed in one ball of plastic yarn...
In any case, my inner panda bear thanks for the Bambu yarn and returns to the knitting. However, now that I think of it - should I keep my style from the beginning to the end and change my faithful Addis to bamboo needles?
