Gifts, part II and greetings from Tallinn
Gifts!
Sipi has received her packet. Its theme was "blue things from the close-by capitals": Garnstudio's Fabel sock yarn in the blue colourway from Stockholm and Kalev's white chocolate with blueberries from Tallinn.
Also Mau got some mail. It looks like the service is much better between Finland and Germany than between USA and Finland...
I did get two winter issues of Vogue Knitting on two consecutive days (even though there were a few weeks between the complaints I made), so one of them had to go. It also looks like that the cat treats I keep sending are such a success that the manufacturer should start paying me money.
I'm glad that the gifts have been to the people's liking.
Shopping!
As you have probably guessed by now, we did visit Tallinn last Sunday on the second to last day of our winter holiday. We wanted to take the guided tour in the old tunnels that have been recently opened to public, but unfortunately we found out that you should register in advance and that the two tours that day were already fully booked. Well, nevermind, there's much to see anyway and the weather was really nice and warm.
We headed to the old town via a yarn shop but unfortunately Liann Lõngad (Narva mnt 13, Pro Kapitali building) was not open. Sunday seemed to be a bad day for yarn shopping anyway because many souvenir shops that sell the local multicoloured wool yarn were also closed. Filati (Müürivahe 20) looked worryingly quiet, but my first impression was wrong and I got to go yarn shopping! (People say that there's also a Filati shop in Kaubamaja. We did not find it but we did not look too hard either.)
The restaurant Olde Hansa has opened a shop called Krambude early last year but somehow we have missed it so far. The shop sells mostly glassware and ceramics and many other things. Now the doors were open and Jussi found a medieval cookbook, so maybe we'll do some experimental cooking in the future.
We also tried some modern shopping in the new Foorumi mall close to the Viru Center (Narva mnt 5 / Hobujaama 10). In addition to the designer clothes shops we found the Lush shop (oh! oh! oh! and the Kangas ja Nööp shop at the end of the corridor. I got great service and some massage cream that smells like peach and looks like a soap and Jussi got new buttons for his leather jacket. Also, in the Viru Center they had opened a new pancake restaurant and that was not bad either...
Yarn!
Kangas ja Nööp had a yarn shelf in addition to the fabrics and buttons. The selection was not huge but I found some variegated red Emmebi Vogue. Maybe now I can finish my Flower Basket Shawl and just not mind having the last repeat in a different colour. I also spotted some Gedifra yarns.
The Sprint sock yarn is from Filati. Jussi chose it himself.
BBB Kid Royal mohair yarn was simply irresistibly pink and the few ONline Kaschmerino balls were on sale, so of course I had to give them a good home.
ONline Java Color (cotton and viscose blend) wants to be a summer scarf and the BBB Contessa wants to be a warmer scarf. Note especially the fourth ball of Contessa. Earlier I have bought three balls of yarn for a scarf and ran out of yarn about 5-10 rows before the end at least three times, so now I was wiser.
