Ethnic sock - functional description

Disclaimer: this is not a traditional sock. It is a sock that incorporates several ethnic influences even from - gasp! - mittens. But I think you already noticed that.

The sock is knitted... well... yes... from yarn (Novita Wool) with DPNs or "sock needles" as we call them in Finland (size 2,5 mm). And no, the missing pair is not a bug, it is a feature. See, even the title of this entry is in singular! That's for having my foot in mouth... I mean...

As many socks before this (sneaker socks do not count here), also this one has the leg part. A leg part that folds. a leg part that folds and has a fringe and twisted stripes also known as kihnu vits.

My absolutely fantastically great and glorious innovation was that I knitted hidden part of the leg in knit 2, purl 2 rib so that the sock would have a better fit. Now, looking back, I can say that I shouldn't have worried, the sock would fit like (pardon the pun) a glove also without the ribbing.

The socks have not at all suprisingly a heel. It's just stockinette and white and black alternate after each stich and has the normal turns and all. The happy end... the toe of the sock is "like Mom does it".

On the Ethnic knitting class we talked a lot about Latvian mittens and gloves as the are magnificent. Here's a link someone once sent somewhere; I cannot remember who but thanks to her anyway! Latvian mittens and gloves.
