Old Town Days in Tallinn

Jussi and I decided to see the Old Town Days in Tallinn like we did last year. That would mean less yarn and more history which would be completely OK.

I did manage to visit Kangas ja Nööp (because it was on the way from the harbour) to see if they had got more of the orange Maali yarn I bought the last time. They did not. Hansa-Lina did have some of it, it was about 10 kroonis more per skein. I thought I would knit Jussi a jacket of Maali and felt it, but they did not have enough of the dark blue or grey yarns Jussi would have liked. (I guess I don't have to put a picture here, do I?)

We also managed to visit a few book stores. I got Kirikindad II by Aino Praakli and another book called Ilmasilmaja by Mikk Sarv. Kirikindad II contains mitten patterns, but I have to admit that I have no idea of what Ilmasilmaja is about, I just wanted to have it for inspiration because it was illustrated with traditional patterns which would be good for knitting. Maybe someday I'll also be able to read the texts, too.

There were quite a few booths at the market near the Town Hall Square. I seem to be addicted to the local wool yarn, so I bought some red and some blue from a very sweet young boy.

Here are some more photos.

We also went to a sightseeing tour with a bus full of Swedes (we were the only Finns!). It took one hour by bus and one hout on foot when we walked around old town. We saw the Kadriorg park (but not the palace) and the Pirita cloister through the bus window from across the street. Unfortunately we did not go there - that was actually the reason we decided to go to the tour...

In Tallinn Song Festival Grounds we were allowed outside for five minutes. The statue if of the choir leader and composer Gustav Ernesaks who is also called the Father of Song.

In case you wonder what the blue bottle was about, it was in the Town Council's Apothecary.
