Greetings from Mini
Ulla is almost done and I've also managed to combine knitting and cats! Here's a quick cat toy from the leftovers of my Ulla project:
You need two 8 mm DPNs, the leftovers of Novita Huopanen or other yarn that felts in the washing machine and optionally some eyelash yarn, two 1-1,5 m pieces. I used Sandnesgarn Funny with the longer eyelashes.
Cast on 6 stitches with Huopanen. Join Funny and knit i-cord with both yarns. (Knit 6 stitches, do not turn, but move the stitches to the right end of the needle, knit 6... Repeat this.)
When you run out of Funny, continue knitting with Huopanen only. You don't have to worry about weaving in ends, the felting will take care of that, so just knit, you don't have to leave an end.
When the i-cord measures about 56-57 cm, join the second piece of Funny and knit until you run out of it. Cast off.
Felt in the washing machine (for example I used the 70 minute cycle in 40 degrees Celcius). Insert, for example, a piece of plastic through the i-cord before felting so it remains open in the middle. remember to rinse well so there is no washing detergent residue.
Stuff with catnip (it's a bit difficult, so get a pen or something similar to help you). Tie on a knot. Give to cat. Watch the show. Enjoy.
Also watch that the cat does not get too excited with the eyelash yarn and eat it, our silly cats like to chew yarn and it doesn't seem to be the brightest idea. (You can leave the eyelash yarn out, I bet the cat won't mind as long as you have enough catnip.)
