Book meme from Kati
Kati passed on a book meme to me.
Total number of books in your house
Too many, or too few book shelves! I have never counted the books and I won't count them. However, we don't have that many (classic or classic-to-be) novels. I have many knitting and grammar books and comic books and Jussi's got loads of history and telecom books (he's an engineer, what did you expect!).
The last book you bought was
I haven't got it yet, but I pre-ordered Nicky Epstein's Knitting over the Edge.
The last book you read was
Heavier than Heaven, Kurt Cobain's biography. The book I read before that was a knitting book, At Knit's End by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. I just don't have the time to read that much!
5 (or 6) books you often read or meant a lot to you
This is more difficult than I thought it would be! What about The Bible? Should I list all the fairytale books I read and loved as a kid? Alice in Wonderland? Or the very first book you could call sci-fi that I read on our balcony on a warm summer day when I was twelve and got hooked on sci-fi? (The book was Space Hostages by Nicholas Fisk, by the way.) Do comics count? What about reference books? Should I break the rules and list short stories? (For example Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, you know, the short story the Blade Runner movie was based on).
One thing I have to confess: I have never managed to read The Lord of the Rings books by Tolkien, I just read the appendices because they seem much more interesting to me.
These are in no particular order:
Exodus by Leon Uris. I read it when I was little and it touched me. I thought the men were brave and noble in defending what they believed in.
All ten books in the Sandman comics compilation by Neil Gaiman. If I had to choose one compilation of the ten, I'd choose Doll's House because it was the first one I read and the first one I bought.
The Lion and the Witch and the Wardrobe from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S.Lewis. I love the whole series but this is my favourite. The last book of the series, The Last Battle, makes me cry every time I read it.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. So funny!
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Just imagine a world without books.
There are a lot of books bubbling under and maybe on another day I would have chosen otherwise. I had to leave out some of my favourite authors because I could not pick just one book from them (Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and many many more).
Who are you going to pass this to and why?
Anne in Belgium because I want to know if she has other than knitting books and so that she could sit down for a while.
Niina because she mentioned Terry Pratchett in her latest entry.
Elisabeth in Denmark because she was a great help when I tried to find a Danish ice hockey jersey.

Hey, that's what everyone says! :-) I didn't even try to count our books even though I'm sure we have less books than the people who have counted theirs.
oh boy... this is bad.... I've got the whole apartment filled with books, and I've never been able to choose a favourite! :) well.... I'll have to try *S*
